Measure the sofa as it will leave the room

A three-seater often has one long frame that cannot fold in the middle. Three seat cushions do not mean three detachable modules. Provide the overall length, depth and height. For a three-seater, measure both the front door and the landing where the sofa needs to turn. A long sofa may fit inside a lift but not around the corner in front of it. Mention removable armrests or feet only if you know they can actually be detached.

What should I do with my old sofa?

Start by checking whether someone else can still use it. A clean sofa with a sound frame may be suitable for selling, giving away or a reuse organisation, subject to acceptance. Agree who carries it out and collects it; interest in an advert is not a confirmed pickup. If reuse does not work out, compare municipal disposal for your address with a paid furniture collection. Keep the dimensions, floor and condition ready so you can make an informed request.

Can a dirty sofa be collected?

Describe what “dirty” means: stained upholstery, pet hair, smoke odour, dampness or another issue. Those conditions affect handling and whether reuse is realistic. A washable cover does not automatically make the whole sofa clean. Provide clear photos and explain any contamination before confirmation; do not conceal it under a blanket. Acceptance and handling are assessed from the actual condition. Collection is not a cleaning treatment, and cleaning is not automatically included in the price.

An ugly or outdated sofa: reuse or removal?

A sofa you find ugly may still suit another home. Separate appearance from function: an unfashionable colour is different from a broken frame or sagging seat. If you offer it for reuse, show the whole sofa in daylight and mention wear honestly. Include its dimensions and the collection floor. If you simply want to make space for a different style, you can request removal without describing the furniture as broken when it is not.

How do I get rid of a broken sofa?

Explain which part has failed: a leg, frame, spring, seat support or reclining mechanism. A damaged frame may no longer be safe to lift by the armrests. Mention exposed sharp parts and sections that move independently, and photograph the damage without taking the sofa apart just to show it. A broken sofa can be submitted for assessment; the condition and carrying route determine whether and how collection can be arranged. Keep loose components with the inventory so the request covers the complete item.

Replacing a sofa: when should the old one go?

Check the delivery arrangements for your replacement sofa before planning removal. Do not assume the furniture shop takes the old sofa away: that needs a separate agreement with the seller. Allow time between the confirmed collection and delivery, especially if the old and new sofas cannot both fit in the hallway. Compare the new sofa’s dimensions with the route as well. You can state a preferred removal date, but it becomes an appointment only after confirmation.

What can I do with an unusable sofa?

If the sofa cannot reasonably be used again, focus on suitable removal rather than offering it as usable furniture. Identify its materials and separate pieces, and check the bulky-waste options for the actual address. If you cannot carry or transport it yourself, explain that in the collection request. Do not leave it beside a container while waiting for an appointment. The agreed collection covers the accepted items and access arrangements; special conditions must be discussed beforehand.

Old sofa, corner sofa or sofa bed: choose by construction and size

Having an old sofa collected starts with identifying its model. A straight two- or three-seater differs from an L-shaped sofa with a chaise longue. For a corner sofa, note how many modules detach; for a sofa bed, describe the folding mechanism. Measure the overall dimensions including armrests and the largest section that cannot be taken apart further. Seat count alone does not tell you whether it fits through the stairwell.

Prepare the furniture and carrying route

Remove loose belongings from the sofa and any storage compartment. Describe a sagging seat, broken frame or faulty mechanism. Clear the passage and photograph the stair turn or doorway if access is difficult. A footstool or armchair is not automatically included with the sofa: add it separately.

What belongs in this request?

For a usable sofa, first ask whether a new owner or reuse shop accepts it and who will carry it out. Paid collection can help with a worn or broken sofa if you cannot arrange the lifting yourself. A window route, hoisting or dismantling is not automatically included.

What you can register

Select the correct type and quantity in the request form.

What to know beforehand

Check whether the sofa fits through doors, staircases or the lift, and mention whether sections can be detached.

What affects the price

Type, quantity, floor, lift, possible dismantling and access are assessed together. Unconfirmed tariffs are not presented as agreed prices.

From your room to the collection van

Walk the complete carrying route before submitting the request. Include internal doors, stair turns, thresholds and the distance to a possible loading space. Measure a lift’s doorway and interior rather than simply stating that a lift is present. If items are in several rooms or storage spaces, describe each starting point. Photographs of difficult passages are useful alongside the measurements.

An appointment is confirmed after assessment

Enter your preferred date and, if possible, an alternative. The inventory, address, access and schedule need assessment before the collection is confirmed. Submitting the form does not reserve a date or guarantee same-day service. Coordinate a new furniture delivery or key handover only after confirmation. Payment follows the agreed collection; you do not pay when submitting the request.

A clear calculation

What does sofas collection cost?

Start with the €75 base fee per collection. Add the item prices multiplied by their quantities and any applicable access or arrival-window surcharges. All amounts include VAT. Clearance prices are starting prices: the volume and work must be assessed.

Reuse, municipal collection or collection from your home?

If furniture is clean and usable, ask a new owner or reuse shop about acceptance first. Agree who will carry it out and arrange transport. For discarded furniture, check the bulky-waste rules for the actual address: appointment requirements, presentation times and accepted materials differ by municipality. Indoor collection is useful when the carrying and transport need arranging too; describe your situation for assessment.

Who collects old furniture in Amsterdam?

You can request furniture collection from furniturepickup.nl. List the items and explain access at your address in Amsterdam. For municipal bulky waste, use the rules for Amsterdam; charity shops or a new owner may be an option for usable furniture, subject to acceptance.

How much does furniture pickup cost?

The base fee is €75, plus item prices and any applicable surcharges, including VAT. A single two-seat sofa at €60 gives a ground-floor total of €135 with the standard arrival window. The address and inventory are assessed before confirmation.

Is furniture pickup in Amsterdam free?

Our collection service is paid. For household bulky waste through Amsterdam, the published position is: Free drop-off at a Recyclepunt; check collection arrangements for your address. Free collection is not the same as help carrying furniture out of your home. Use the local guide for the municipal conditions at your collection address.

How do I get rid of an old sofa?

If the sofa is still usable, first check whether someone will accept it for reuse. For collection, select the actual sofa size and describe detachable modules, its floor and the route outside. Mention a separate ottoman or armchair individually rather than assuming it is part of the sofa.

Can you collect a broken sofa?

Describe the damage, such as a cracked frame or faulty reclining mechanism, and include dimensions. A broken sofa needs an assessment of its condition and carrying route before acceptance. Photos can show loose or sharp parts; do not present the sofa as intact if it is unstable.

Can an old wardrobe be collected?

Select the appropriate cabinet size and state whether the wardrobe is assembled or in panels. Empty it and describe mirrors, glass and wall fixings. Dismantling is not automatically included. The largest component must be considered when assessing doors and stairs.

Can I have just one chair collected?

You can submit a request for one chair. An ordinary dining chair has an item price of €10; adding the €75 base fee gives €85 before applicable extras. Office chairs and armchairs have their own categories. The base fee is not waived for a small item.

Can you take a bed and mattress together?

Describe the bed frame, bases, headboard and mattress, then check what the chosen product includes. Select an additional mattress separately where needed. Electrical bases and a box spring should not be described as a light empty frame. List any bedside tables as separate furniture.

Do you collect washing machines and fridges?

The form includes appliance categories. A washing machine has an item price of €55, excluding the base fee and applicable extras. Choose the correct fridge size and explain any built-in fittings. Empty appliances and arrange safe disconnection; installation work is not automatically included.

When is bulky waste collected in Amsterdam?

Use the rules for Amsterdam and check your address or appointment confirmation. The published presentation information is: From 21:00 the evening before collection; outside by 07:00. Check whether your address needs a booking or uses a scheduled day. These municipal instructions do not describe the appointment time for our separate furniture collection service.

Do I need to put furniture outside?

For an agreed collection from inside your home, keep the items at the described location unless another arrangement is confirmed. Municipal collection has its own outside-presentation rules. Do not put furniture beside a communal waste container in anticipation of an unconfirmed pickup.

Can you carry furniture downstairs?

Describe the stairs, turns and lift dimensions. For items priced above €50, access adds €10 per item with a suitable lift or €10 per item per floor without one. An unusable lift does not remove the need to assess the stairs.

Can I request urgent pickup in Amsterdam?

State your preferred date and explain any deadline. Same-day or next-day pickup is not guaranteed when submitting. The inventory, access and schedule must first be assessed. Wait for confirmation before treating the collection as booked.

When do I pay for collection?

You do not pay when submitting the request. Payment follows immediately after the agreed collection under the confirmed arrangements. Review the items, quantities and access details beforehand; a price example on the page is not a confirmed quote for a different inventory.

What cannot go with the furniture?

Construction waste and chemical waste are outside this furniture collection service. A cabinet request does not automatically include everything stored inside it. Use the available item categories and describe anything unusual in advance; unlisted items are not automatically accepted.

Can usable furniture go to a charity shop?

Ask the shop whether it accepts the specific item and who handles transport or carrying. A clean chair or complete table may suit reuse, but acceptance is not guaranteed. Keep any furniture accepted by another party separate from your final pickup inventory.
